June 9 - Brentsville’s tandem of Jake DeLisi and Vince DiMauro were named the Region 3B co-Pitchers of the Year and their skipper, Brian Knight, was chosen as the Coach of the Year after the Tigers won a second straight region championship.
Delisi, a senior right-hander who will play at Division II King University in Tennessee next year, enters the Class 3 semifinals on Thursday carrying an 8-1 record with a save, a 1.36 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 56.2 innings. DiMauro, a junior right-hander, is a perfect 7-0 with a save, a 2.19 ERA and 98 strikeouts in 60.2 innings.
DeLisi pitched a perfect game in a 9-0 win over Manassas Park in the region quarterfinals on May 23 and the two hurlers combined on a no-hitter in a 4-0 win over Fauquier on March 25.
The Tigers (21-3) enter their semifinal against Fluvanna County riding an eight-game winning streak after claiming the Northwestern District regular season championship and beating Warren County for their second region title in as many years. The architect has been Knight, who is in the third year of his second stint at the school and has guided the program to 34 wins over its past 39 games.
Other Northern Virginia players earning first-team all-region honors were Brentsville senior first baseman Collin Reid, Brentsville senior outfielder Luke Binsted and Spotsylvania senior Tyler Croson, who was selected as the utility player.
