Highland’s DeBardi Named Northern Virginia High School Player of the Week


April 9 - Highland School’s Joe DeBardi has been named the Northern Virginia High School Player of the Week, sponsored by Northern Virginia Orthodontics.

DeBardi, a 5-foot-11, 190-pound senior third baseman who has signed to play at Mount St. Mary’s University, went 7-for-9 with a walk, five extra-base hits, five RBI and four stolen bases as the Hawks swept their three games last week against Potomac School, Fredericksburg Christian and Fuqua.

In Tuesday’s 16-6 win over the Panthers, DeBardi had his second three-hit game of the spring while driving in three runs. He has six multi-hit games and entered the week pacing Highland School in batting average (.439), hits (18), doubles (6), runs (12) and steals (8) and had 11 RBI in the Hawks’ 13 games.

Here are this week’s other six nominees:

Jack Bachmore, West Potomac - A 6-foot-1, 215-pound left-handed pitcher and outfielder, Bachmore struck out eight and scattered two hits over five scoreless innings as the Wolverines beat then-No. 2 Potomac, 3-1, on Thursday. He entered the week 1-0 with 13 strikeouts to just one walk and had yet to allow a run in seven innings.

Joe Clancy, Westfield - A 6-foot-1, 215-pound senior right-handed pitcher and infielder, Clancy recorded 15 strikeouts in a two-hit shutout of Centreville on Tuesday. He entered the week 3-0 with 33 strikeouts and has allowed just three hits in 15.2 scoreless innings and was hitting .350 with a home run and six RBI.

Adam Fischer, West Potomac - A 6-foot-1, 195-pound left-handed pitcher and first baseman, Fischer had 15 strikeouts in 5.2 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while walking one in a 4-0 win over Annandale on Tuesday. He entered the week 1-1 with a 2.21 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 12.2 innings.

Campbell Goodin, T.C. Williams - A 5-foot-11, 165-pound junior catcher, Goodin went 3-for-6 with a walk, double and three RBI as the Titans swept their two games from Hayfield and Bullis (MD). He entered the week hitting .381 with eight hits and four RBI this spring.

Andrew Neff, Mountain View - A 6-foot-2, 170-pound senior right-handed pitcher and second baseman, Neff struck out 15 and walked only one over six no-hit innings in a 10-0 win over King George in his first outing of the season on Monday. He went 3-for-7 with a double and two RBI over the Wildcats’ two games, and entered the week hitting .231 this spring.

Peter Ogden, Yorktown - A 6-foot, 175-pound junior second baseman, Ogden went 5-for-9 with three walks, six RBI and two steals as the Patriots swept their two games against Liberty District foes Washington-Lee and Langley. He entered the week hitting .318 with eight RBI and five steals this season.
