May 6 - Lake Braddock is back on top of the rankings for the first time since late in the 2018 season in the latest Northern Virginia Top 10 Poll, sponsored by Prime Time Baseball in Alexandria.
The Bruins (17-2), winners of seven straight and 10 of their past 11, swept games from Fairfax and West Springfield last week and garnered 30 of 41 first-place votes and 396 points to rise one spot after previous No. 1 Madison dropped two of three. The Warhawks (15-4) fell four spots to No. 5, earning one first-pace vote and 251 points.
No. 2 Patriot (14-2) also moved up one spot, earning 10 first-place votes and 373 points after allowing just two runs and posting two shutouts in wins over then-No. 4 Battlefield, Osbourn and Stonewall Jackson. The Pioneers have won six straight.
At No. 3 is Stafford (16-2), which moved up two spots after sweeping its games against Mountain View, North Stafford and Riverbend, posting shutouts against the later two opponents. The Indians, who got 277 points, have won four straight and 11 of their last 12.
Rising three spots was No. 4 Westfield (17-3), which earned 257 points after sweeping four contests and clinched the top seed in next week’s Concorde District Tournament. The Bulldogs beat district foes Centreville, Madison and Chantilly before wrapping the week by posting its program-record 12th shutout on Saturday against Flint Hill.
No. 6 Potomac (16-3) remained in the same position in the rankings, getting 217 points after sweeping three games from Colonial Forge, Freedom-Woodbridge and Colgan. The Panthers were followed by No. 7 Battlefield (13-4), which has dropped four of five since opening its season with 12 straight victories. The Bobcats dropped three spots, receiving 129 points.
Two Liberty District teams follow, with No. 8 McLean (14-5) moving up two spots with 98 points after sweeping three league contests from South Lakes, Herndon and Langley and No. 9 Yorktown (15-4) remaining in the same position after beating Washington-Lee and Herndon. The Patriots got 89 points.
No. 10 Brentsville District (13-2) dropped two spots, receiving 77 points after dropping a game to William Monroe before finishing its week with a win over Manassas Park.
Also receiving votes this week were the following teams: Centreville (37), Briar Woods (23), Highland School (21), Freedom-South Riding (5), Justice (2), Osbourn Park (2) and Bishop O'Connell (1).
