Southpaw Clarke Commits to Crimson Tide

August 6 - Brandon Clarke, a rising junior left-hander, committed over the weekend to pitch at the University of Alabama. He announced his decision via Twitter.

Clarke went 4-3 with a 2.00 ERA and 50 strikeouts with 21 walks in 35 innings this spring at Rock Ridge. He made 10 appearances, including five starts, as the Phoenix went 7-15 before falling to eventual champion Briar Woods in the Potomac District quarterfinals.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound southpaw has a fastball that reaches into the high 80s. Clarke was a second-team all-district selection as a first baseman this past season, and he plays in the offseason with the North Carolina-based Dirtbags travel program.

Alabama was 30-26 overall and 7-23 in the Southeastern Conference last spring under coach Brad Bohannon.
