Stafford’s Harrison Named Region 5D Coach of the Year


June 8 - Stafford coach Tommy Harrison has been named the Region 5D Coach of the Year after guiding the Indians to the region championship and their first state tournament berth since 2009.

Stafford (22-3) defeated Broad Run, 5-0, in the Class 5 state quarterfinals on Tuesday and will play Hickory (23-1) in the semifinals on Thursday after the state tournament was postponed due to weather. The Indians had an eight-game winning streak earlier this season and have won six straight entering their semifinal game.

Players from Northern Virginia earning first-team all-region honors included: Stafford senior pitcher Mike Tolson and sophomore outfielders Caleb McAlister and Elijah Lambros, Potomac senior pitcher Brody Mack, junior outfielder Ben Thomas, and junior catcher and pitcher Braden Mack, and Massaponax sophomore Mike Shanahan, who was chosen as the designated hitter.

Halifax’s Drew Harlow was named the Player of the Year.
