The Weight Room is Open: Area Players Set to Shake Off Thanksgiving Pounds


November 26 - After a holiday break spent with family, on the couch watching football and polishing off leftovers from Thanksgiving dinner, area baseball players are back in the weight room today as the 2019 season approaches in less than three months.

Many high school programs have voluntarily weight and conditioning programs held during the offseason, some beginning over the summer and others once their players’ fall season concludes. Players will have supervised workouts in the weight room or track anywhere from two to five times a week, with a focus on losing or transferring weight, adding quickness and explosive movement, and strengthening core muscles.

Area coaches took to Twitter over the weekend to remind players to enjoy that last turkey sandwich and piece of apple pie, but then to dust off the gym shorts and come ready to work this week. Below are some of their tweets:
