Brooke Point Promotes Alum Cavalier as New Head Coach

October 9 - Matt Cavalier was named late last month as the new head coach at Brooke Point, the magazine has learned.

A 2006 graduate of the Stafford school, Cavalier previously served as an assistant under former coach Scott DelCore and is the quarterbacks coach for the Black-Hawks’ varsity football team. He attended West Virginia University and works as a history teacher at the school.

DelCore, who stepped down after last season, was 9-52 in his three seasons as Brooke Point’s coach. The Black-Hawks went 6-16 in 2018, upsetting Stafford, 8-4, in the opening round of the Region 5D Tournament before falling to Mountain View, 1-0, in the quarterfinals.

The hiring of Cavalier leaves South County with the lone coaching vacancy in Northern Virginia. The Stallions are not planning to hire a new coach until they have a new director of student activities in place. Harry Van Trees is serving as the Lorton school’s DSA in an interim capacity until a permanent hire has been made.
